here is the USN's first modern battleship USS Texas. launched in 1895 Texas had a 12" armor belt, a main battery of two 12" rifles and was propelled by two vertical triple expansion engines. with this power she could make 17kts. an English design Texas was later relegated to 2nd class battleship. she, however, took part in the Spanish- American War and helped in the destruction of the Spanish fleet off Santiago in 1898. the first picture is Texas's port side 12" rifle and crew.
the second picture is of USS Texas underway at sea. the third is Texas at sea off the Cuban coast in 1898.
