Helmets are required at most of places when you get on motorcycles. Not really in where we are; only Under 18 years old are required. I would have worn mine more if I don't have to carry the thing with me at destination. Carrying the thing in a store sucks balls. You can leave the darn thing with your bike, but there is huge risk of getting stolen or some mindless pranksters fucking it up.
25 year old Australian industrial designer Jessica Dunn thought the same as she spent five months in Indonesia riding around on a motorcycle, and carrying the helmet with her when she was not riding. Which lead her to come up with the Proteus folding helmet.
"An outer layer of polycarbonate covers polystyrene foam, and the innermost layer is a material that's pliable during normal use but instantly hardens when it registers an impact. The helmet itself collapses in a manner reminiscent of a hardtop convertibles, the visor slides back on top while the sides and back fold into the helmet's interior cavity. "
The folding reduces the helmet bulk by 20%, enough to put in your backpack, and the met meets Australia's safety standards. Well, when it is folded, it will be the size of Beanie met. I am sure that Jessica's met is safer than a beanie. And beanies are illegal in some country now...
