an original ad for the famous ALCO 539 engines. inline 6cyl. diesel with or without turbocharger{which would be 539T}. these engines were extremely tough and put out anywhere from 660hp. to 1,000hp. next is a picture of a put out to pasture Alco DL-109 of the Gulf, Mobile & Ohio RR. in her prime she was a beauty with chrome whiskers and bright paint. fast too with two 539T engines in the engine room. last is an Alco S-3 switcher also powered with one or another versions of the excellent 539 series diesels. looks like this one is still being used.
