early steam racing cars

here are some early steam powered racing cars. first one is "Whistling Billy" built by the White company. Billy was so called because of the whistling noise all the burners made when the car was at speed. Billy had a compound engine and was very fast for the day. it is said he once went 130mph. a man in England is building a modern reproduction of Billy using many original parts. next we have the Stanley Torpedo 1903 which was driven by F.E. Stanley himself. third is the Stanley powered streamliner of Louis Ross called "Wogglebug" of 1905. in this picture "Wogglebug" is running on Ormond Beach in Florida. the last picture is of what i would call a Stanley sports car running in a steam exhibition in England.
