i just ordered one of these last Sunday. in O-gauge of course for my electric train world. these are pictures of Virginia and Truckee No.22. mine is marked and painted just like the real one. apparently V and T bought this one in1910 for $24,000. it is the only one operating in the world and i would imagine it is now priceless. they originally ran gasoline engines with an air operated clutch and two speeds forward. to reverse, the engine was stopped the camshaft shifted and the engine started up in reverse. supposedly they were difficult and troublesome to operate. V and T used this one from 1910-1945 so it must have been fairly reliable. the original power unit being lost somewhere along the way it now has Caterpillar Diesel Power. they were somewhat ahead of their time. if William McKeen hadn't been so stubborn and refused to use gasoline or diesel electric drive they would have been in production for a much longer time. as it happened though they were made between 1905-1917 and 152 of them were made.
