diesel motorcycles

after all the steam the last few days i thought to venture into diesel world today. i was a diesel mechanic in the USN so have always liked diesels. the ones i worked on weighed 18tons apiece which wouldn't be very good for a motorcycle. these pictured here are all Ruggerini engines. as the name suggests they are Italian. first picture is a Royal Enfield conversion. the Royal Enfield seems to be a very popular bike to use in diesel conversion. next is a 1981 Honda conversion and third is an MZ. fourth we have a Moto-Guzzi V-50 and last is another Royal Enfield called a Centaurus. these diesel bikes are capable of very high fuel mileage figures. most of them seem to be at least in the 100mpg range. with modern diesels the all round performance figures are quite acceptable with decent acceleration and good cruising speeds.
