Tredegar Iron Works Richmond, VA

these are pictures of the Tredegar Iron Works of Richmond, VA the largest arms and armor manufactory of the Confederate States of America 1861-1865. Tredegar was responsible for the production of the majority of Brooke Rifles for the CSN and the CSA. Tredegar also produced much of the other ordnance of the CSA and also much of the plate armor for the Confederate Navy. due to scarcity of raw materials Tredegar's never operated at full capacity during the entirety of the War Between the States. other Southern works were Scofield and Markham of Atlanta, GA, Shelby Iron Works of Shelby, AL and Selma Iron Works of Selma, AL. all of these were major suppliers of iron products for the Confederacy as a whole and the Army and Navy in particular. Selma mostly produced ordnance{Brooke Rifles being the most important}. the scarcity of raw materials was but one of the things that caused the Confederacy to fail in it's fight for independence from the Union. the first picture is of Tredegar's in the 1860's. the next color pictures are all of what is left of Tredegar's today. the large gun out front is of course a Brooke Rifle.
