Grocery Shopping with a style

Monday, August 9, 2010 | 0 comments

"No problem getting a parking space at the supermarket with this baby.

Shoppers stop and stare when Tim Hayes rumbles up in this German World War II armoured motorcycle halftrack to carry away the baked beans and washing powder.

'The looks on people's faces whenever I rumble down the street is priceless, I swear some of them think Birmingham is being invaded,' the 52-year-old lorry driver said."

I have done my share of grocery shopping on my bike. It is not really fun since you got very limited load capacity. He must be some kinda a guy. Got wife half of his age....

These motorcycle half tracks were produced by NSU in the second world war and could be carried in Ju-52 aircraft and were used for such things as pulling small artillery pieces in the field, runway tugs for air c raft in order to conserve aviation fuel. Only two significant sub-variations of the Kettenkrad were constructed, and production of the vehicle was stopped in 1944, at which time 8,345 had been constructed. After the war the production went on until 1949 for agricultural use.

I saw a for sale ad of a Kettenkrad a few years ago. I wonder how much they sell for it in the US...

Think Biker Campaign

Friday, March 12, 2010 | 0 comments

There are a few motorcycle safety commercials that I have mentioned here such as Australian one with Doohan , the one from New Zealand or the one from Norway. But there is another cool one from GB. "The Department of Transport has launched this new ad created by London agency Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO as part of its THINK! campaign. This ad was inspired by research stating that drivers who personally know a motorcyclist are much more careful and aware while driving" I sure really like to have one of those cool neon sign on my bike for the show...Kinda creates"Akira"-ish atmosphere... If you are interested, there is a clip about making of the ad to appreciate the crew who made the clever ad.

Oh by the way, if you like the catchy tune featured in the ad, it is by Stephan Altman and you can download the full version here.
