here's a couple of pictures of HMS Inflexible a Victorian Era British Battleship. she had thicker armour than any battleship before or since. up to 24" in some places of compound iron armour. she had the largest main battery of any Royal Navy ship, 16" 80ton muzzle loading rifles. they were fired in anger in 1882 at the fight with the Egytian Forts at Alexandria, which of course the Royal Navy won. she was propelled through the water by a high pressure steam system at 60psi operating two compound{double expansion}engines which turned two 20ft. screws for a top speed of 14.75kts. Inflexible was the first warship to be completely lit by electric lights at 800volts dc. also the first ship to electrocute someone. this lead to a reduction to 80volts dc in later vessels. she had the first underwater torpedo tubes in a warship as well. all in all a very modern battleship for the times. the top picture is from a newspaper of the time showing Inflexible underway at sea. the second she is at anchor in harbour.
