Milwaukee Iron to Mumbai Iron?
Friday, May 7, 2010
H-D ain't making good money lately so they are saying that they might have to move the factory from Milwaukee. Some say that their mistake was hiring a golfer for CEO. They made a lot of business decisions that I had to disagree. One of them being shutting Buell completely down.
Maybe they need to move the manufacturing facility to oversea, say India? Labor is cheap and they already build Royal Enfield there. H-D also announced that they will be exporting their models to India as the demand over there is growing. However its tariff would be pretty big. The cheapest H-D model Sportster might cost over 22K there. That makes it another good reason to move the factory in India. Yeah yeah yeah I know, H-D has to be Made In USA.. However a lot of their parts are made in overseas already. Most notably their carburetors, made by Keihin, which is a Japanese company.
