tinplate warships

Tuesday, March 1, 2011

here are some interesting tinplate warship toys from days of yore. the first represents a Russian gunboat from the turn of the 20th century. second is a Battleship of around the same era both are German made. the next two, a torpedoboat and an aircraft carrier, are from Japan and are fairly modern being made after WWII. there were all kinds of tinplate ships made in the late 19th and all through the 20th century. many were powered, some with clockwork motors, some with electricity and some even had working steam plants aboard. some had wheels and rolled on the floor while others actually floated and could be used as a ship should be, in the water. these things sell for a good bit of money nowadays some up into the thousands of dollars.
