HMS Dreadnought the first modern battleship 1906. this ship had all big gun armament, turbine power, and high speed. Dreadnought made all previous battleships obsolete almost overnight. at this point all first class navies had to have this type of ship or be relegated to second class status. the battleship ruled the oceans of the world until the advent of the aircraft carrier.
