Savage Model 99

i've been thinking about going shooting one of these days. my brother just bought a Savage 99 so i thought i'd picture one of those. designed by Arthur Savage in 1899{hence the model #}it was an improved Model 95 which had been designed for the military. the Model 99 originally came in .303 Savage for a cartridge which was real close to the famous 30-30 round. over the years it was also chambered for at least 13 other different rounds. originally the rifle was equipped with a 5 shot rotary magazine. only late in it's life was the Model 99 given a box magazine which was mainly to make production cheaper. this rotary magazine made it possible for the Model 99 to use spitzer bullets which other lever actions of the time could not use due to their tubular magazines. thus the Savage could use more powerful and faster ammunition than the others. it was also a hammerless design which gave it a faster lock time than the other lever actions of the time. it is still a popular rifle to this day. pictures include a blow up of the rifle showing all of it's parts, a rifle without scope, an ad for the rifle and finally a picture with scope.
