i've posted both these USN armored cruisers before but in black and white. these are picture postcards from the late 19th century showing the two ships in color. both these vessels played an important part in the Spanish-American War of 1898. USS New York being the flagship of Admiral William T. Sampson commander of the US North Atlantic Fleet. USS Brooklyn was the flagship of Commodore Winfield S. Schley commander of the naval forces which defeated the Spanish Admiral Cervera's fleet at the Battle of Santiago de Cuba. both were excellent ships being both well armed and fast. the Spanish had basically no chance against the US fleet which was made up of the two armored cruisers, several battleships and miscellaneous other vessels.
