the first known steam engine

this is the first known steam engine in history, Heron's Aeolipile. Heron was a first century {10-70 AD} scientist who invented and made other early machines. such as the first coin vending machine, and an air powered device for opening temple doors. he most likely worked in the Great Museum in Alexandria, Egypt then a Roman Province. this type of engine was mentioned earlier in the works of Vitruvius but Heron as far as is known was the first to make and demonstrate it. the first picture is a postulative picture of Heron. the three other pictures are of various modern reproductions of the Aeolipile.
