steam toys

Wednesday, November 17, 2010

since the toy show is opening this Friday night{Nov. 19} and we just had a steampunk expo at Cowtown{with apparently no steam}. i thought i'd put on a few steam toys for today. first we have a machine shop with the overhead belt power. note the empty pulley on the shaft this would have been used for the steam engine to power the machine tools. next we have a steam powered dragon. observe the boiler on his back and the flywheel and drive pulley and belt. next is an old German aeronautical toy designed to be powered by a toy steam engine. fourth we have a Mamod steam locomotive. Mamod by the way is still in business and sells this loco, a steam roller, a steam traction engine and several other steam powered vehicles. and lastly we have a Jensen steam engine and boiler powering a small generator set which lights the bulb above it. check the electrical cord used to heat the boiler.
