Motobi was established in Pesaro, Italy in 1949, by Giuseppe Benelli. Giuseppe left Benelli the long-established family company set up by himself and his five brothers in 1948, reportedly after a family row. He set up independently nearby with his two sons Marco and Luigi initially trading under the name Moto 'B' Pesaro. This was shortened to Motobi in the 1950s. The company disappeared in 1977, but it was revived by Austrian company Michael Leeb Trading GmbH in partnership with Demharter GmbH in 2010 and produces 50cc scooters.
