Other countries already have motorcycle taxi service especially around airports. But Americans had been refusing to use a motorcycle as a cab. Maybe it got something to do with the images of motorcycle riders and love of bigger things...
Finally there will be motorcycle taxi service in biggest two cities of the US, L A and N Y C. It will be started next month by a private airplane company/operator, the taxi service is called Moto Limos Club. Honda Gold Wing and Can-Am Spyder will be used as their rides and operators all have at least 15 years of real professional motorcycle riding experience, not just enthusiasts.
Passengers are equipped with a Bluetooth enabled helmet allowing them to communicate with their rider. You can also use the Bluetooth to talk on your mobile phone, so you can continue doing business. Full weather protected gear is also on hand, in a big enough size that it can be put over your business clothes. In New York, for those colder months, warm blanket will be provided.
It's basically a club, which provide luxury service so it is sadly expensive. Depending on the type of membership and plan, it'll cost you $125 or 250. The minimum rate is $90 per hour to use the Gold Wing, additional trailer will cost you 20 bucks more.
Although the city of Los Angeles legally let you split lane, saving time and all, I doubt this business is gonna take off big. I like they are making effort, though. Well, shared helmets sound unsanitary(especially after long flights), and burden of putting extra gear on top of your supposedly pricey business suits and wrinkling them up seems ridiculous. More importantly to me, the motorcycle taxi service should be cheap, not making into some luxury stuff. I would use cheaper bikes with a caged tailor, which eliminates the use of helmet and gear for passenger and have competitive fare. You know, somewhere between those Thailand bike cabs and this Moto Limos Club?
