some rare diesel locomotives

Tuesday, April 26, 2011

these are all pictures of diesel locomotives that are very seldom seen nowadays. a couple of them will never be seen again because they are all gone. the first picture is of an Alco DL-109 in New Haven RR livery. there are no DL-109's surviving. next is an ABA set of Alco PA's in Santa Fe colors. i think there are 3 maybe 4 of these left. third is the awesome Baldwin "Centipede" so called because of all the wheels 24 on each locomotive. these too are all gone to locomotive heaven. fourth is the Baldwin RF-16 "Shark" called so because of the shape of the front of the locomotive. i think there are 2 of these somewhere in private ownership. we can only hope they will be restored some day. and last is the EMD BL-2 never a very popular locomotive although i've always liked them. there are a very few of them left with perhaps one or two still operable.
