here are two pictures of IJN Zuikaku{fortunate crane}one of the IJN's most modern carriers. Zuikaku and her sister Shokaku were commissioned in 1941 just in time to take part in the attack on Pearl Harbor. they fought throughout the war until both were sunk in 1944. they both fortunately missed the battle of Midway as they were in Japan under repair from battle damage during the Coral Sea engagement. both ships displaced about 30,000 tons were 844ft long and could make 34kts at flank speed. modern carriers of today make no more and probably a bit less. these were fast ships for their size. Zuikaku was sunk at the battle off Cape Engano on October 25, 1944. it took 7 torpedoes and 9 bombs to put her down, she was tough to the end. the top picture is Zuikaku as she looked when turned over to the IJN and the bottom is the crew saluting the flag before she went down.
