chisels

since my last post was hammers i thought some hammer driven tools would be good for tonight. a chisel is another kind of tool which i'm sure all of us have used at one time or another. chisels have been around just about as long as any tool i expect. the ancient civilizations couldn't have gotten along without them any more than we can. the first picture is of some ancient stone chisels. perhaps the next material for chisels was copper and then bronze. iron and steel came along a little later. our next picture shows a set of modern cold chisels used for cutting metal. next we have a set of wood carving chisels and then some flat wood chisels. finally a set of pneumatic chisels driven by an air hammer of some sort. next time you use a chisel take care not to hit your hand with the hammer. it hurts! a lot!
