the fabulous Duesenberg Mormon Meteor

Saturday, September 11, 2010

the Duesenberg Mormon Meteor driven by Ab Jenkins in 1935 set the world 24hr. speed record at 135.47mph average speed. the Meteor was powered by a Duesenberg straight 8 engine with overhead hi-lift cams and 4 valves per cylinder, it had two huge Stromberg UU3 updraft carburetors and supercharger for 400bhp. body was designed by Herbert Newport. this is the car as it looks today, just as it did in 1935. it is quite a large automobile at 142.5in. wheelbase and weight of 4800lb. i can only imagine what a magnificent sound that straight pipe must have made. the following pictures are passenger side, drivers side, instrument panel and interior, and both sides of the beautiful straight 8 engine. note the vertical supercharger with a carburetor on each side. since it is a cross flow head the intake manifolds then go across the top of the engine to the intake side. basically a wonderful American built Hot-Rod.
