Darry Daring

Saturday, September 25, 2010

In 1975, a toy maker, Ideal made up a character for girls called, Derry Daring. Kind of cashing in the popularity of Evel Knievel, they thought that girls needed cool stunt gal figures to play. They made the 7 inches action figure with hair on its head unlike molded head of Evel Knievel action figure. She came with a dune buggy, or the stunt cycle including those launcher.

Historically Derry Daring is notable as she was one of the first action-type figures that was made for girls, placing her up their with the Mego Wonder Woman (and other female heroes in the same line), the Charlie’s Angels dolls, Police Woman and of course the Bionic Woman.
