decided to start calling it Armoured Ship Thursday as i'm going to run out of armoured cruisers eventually. HMS Vanguard the last Royal Navy Battleship 1946-1960. this was probably the best battleship the Royal Navy ever operated. unfortuneatly she was completed too late to take part in WW2 and only ever fired her guns in practice or salute. classed as a fast battleship the Vanguard could make 30kts at flank speed. armed with a main battery of eight 15" rifles and a secondary of sixteen 5.25". her main armour belt was 14" thick and 13" on the turret faces. HMS Vanguard was an excellent sea boat, even in severe weather she rolled little and took little water over the forecastle. it was a sad day for the Royal Navy when Vanguard was taken out of service as never again would they operate such a magnificent vessel. top picture is Vanguard firing a broadside with her main battery. next is Vanguard in harbor with awnings up for shade. the final picture is Vanguard bows on and making a little way through the water.
