this week we have the HMS Sverige the first of a class of three Pansarskepps or Armoured ships. basically these were small pre-dreadnought type battleships designed for coastal defence. Sverige was commissioned into the Swedish Navy in 1914. she was 120meters long and displaced 6,852t. her armour belt was 8" thick and the same on main battery turrets. Sverige was propelled by Kockums-Curtis turbines developing 20.000hp for a top speed of 22.5kts. main battery was four 283mm Bofors naval rifles. secondary was eight 152mm rifles. HMS Sverige led a long life in the Royal Swedish Navy enforcing Sweden's neutrality status in two World Wars. she was scrapped in 1958.
